Serves youth ages 12 to 17 enrolled at Akron Public Schools.
Required documents
  • Photo ID of parent/guardian.
  • Youth photo ID of participant.
Hours
Held year round. Peak season is from April through September. Program meets at 200 South Balch Street in Akron (44302).

Offers a program designed to educate and train both immigrant and neighborhood youth in landscape maintenance. Projects include mowing, weeding, bush/tree trimming of vacant (city/county-owned) and private lots. Garden prep, fences, planters and pergola building are also included. Also entrepreneurial skills and extra spending money via stipends is provided. Youth participants will also participate in math, writing and reading skills tutoring. For most enrolled students in the Yard Corps program, orientation, ongoing training and Ohio Learning Standards study time with professional tutors will be offered.
