Service To Armed Forces (saf) | American Red Cross - Northeast Ohio

Provides access to emergency funds available through the various military aid societies (Army Emergency Relief, Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, Air Force Aid Society, and the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance). The funds can be used for a variety of purposes such as medical care, car repair, emergency travel and utility bill payment assistance. Assistance may come in the form of an interest free loan, a direct grant, or some combination of the two.

Application process

Phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If no answer leave a message and the call will be returned. If the client is within 50 miles of a military base, they may also need to attend an appointment at that base (any personnel from any branch of the military will be served by any military base, no matter the branch).

Eligibility

Serves Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake Counties. Serves active duty military personnel (any branch of the military) and their immediate families. Reservists must be on federal declared active duty. Also serves those who have entered retirement directly from the military and their spouse/widow (either after serving long enough to collect military retirement benefits from the branch they served under, reaching retirement age while enlisted, or becoming eligible for retirement due to service related injury or disability). In all cases, the retired persons must be receiving retirement income benefits from the military branch that they served under.
