PROPERTY TAX ASSISTANCE LOAN - SENIORS | BENJAMIN ROSE INSTITUTE ON AGING

Provides a 3 year loan to help seniors pay off delinquent property tax. Loan comes with a 10 percent interest rate. Money is paid directly to Cuyahoga County. Loan is through Faith United Credit Union, and customer must become a member of Faith United (by becoming a member, customer will be allowed to bank with Faith United Credit Union). Mandatory one-on-one financial counseling will be provided to the client. Client will also be enrolled in a monthly property tax payment plan after receiving the loan.

Eligibility

Cuyahoga County seniors, 55 years of age or older who are delinquent in property taxes. If senior is behind on mortgage, cannot receive loan (however, agency will attempt to help the client modify the mortgage or reach an arrangement with the lender to bring them current). Seniors who are going into foreclosure due to delinquent property taxes still qualify. Minimum default amount is $500 and maximum default amount is $6,500. House must be primary residence. The client must have sufficient income to make ongoing monthly property taxes and loan repayment.
