HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER (SECTION 8) RENTAL ASSISTANCE | MIAMI VALLEY COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP - DARKE COUNTY

Administers subsidized rental program for low-income residents. Eligible applicants who are selected from the waiting list pay approximately 30-40% of adjusted gross family income in rent and the subsidy makes up the balance of market rent. The subsidy moves with participants and it can be used in any unit in the private market which passes an inspection as long as the participant remains eligible and the landlord agrees to participate in the program. There is a waiting list for this program. Provides those who have vouchers with lists of available housing that accepts vouchers. No assistance is provided with paying a rental deposit through this program.

Application process

Phone M-F: 8:00am-4:30pm for information or walk in M-F: 9:00am-3:00pm to pick up application. All required documents must be submitted with application. After application is submitted with all required documents, family is placed on bottom of waiting list and will be notified by mail when a voucher is available.

Fee

Client pays 30%-40% of the family's monthly adjusted gross income, with a subsidy making up the difference between this amount and the market rent of the unit. There is an upper limit on acceptable rental price.

Eligibility

Serves Darke County. Must meet federally established limits for adjusted gross family income, according to the guidelines of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Must be a US citizen or eligible immigrant, pass a criminal background check and meet other eligibility criteria. Only one adult per household may apply and only one application may be submitted. For persons convicted of a felony, must be at least three years after being convicted, and other eligibility criteria may apply.
