Prospective board members (volunteers) are referred to a nonprofit or public agency based on the volunteer's interests and qualifications and agency need. Nonprofit or public leadership and the prospective volunteer interview each other and election to the board occurs if it is an appropriate fit. Prospective board members receive training on the roles and responsibilities of serving on a board. In addition, the Agency offers Board consulting and training services.

Eligibility
Prospective board members are generally nominated by businesses that are members of BVU. Public or nonprofit agencies are eligible for board candidate referral. Nonprofit agencies must be categorized as 501(c)3 and must have at least one paid staff member. Services are offered to agencies of Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark and Summit counties.
