Accepts applications and determines eligibility for Social Security burial benefits, which provides a one time payment of $255 to help meet the burial expenses of a worker who dies with sufficient quarters of coverage. The lump-sum payment is in addition to any monthly survivors insurance benefits that may be due.

Open to surviving spouses that were living in the same household as the deceased at the time of their death. If there is no surviving spouse, surviving children may be eligible to apply.
