SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES (SSVF) | FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES

Provides first month's rent and security deposit to help Veterans establish permanent housing. Will also help with rent to help Veterans stay in their current housing. Clients are provided with benefits assistance, landlord/tenant assistance, and case management to ensure that they are connected to available community resources and VA benefits.

Call the office for more information (if calling after-hours, leave a message and the call will be returned within one business day). This program is able to assist with more homeless prevention funds such as increased length of time assistance is available for rent participants and emergency hotel for Veterans that are unsheltered or need to leave congregate sites. Note: Due to Covid-19, SSVF has become more flexible.

Eligibility

Serves Veterans residents of Southern Ashtabula, Geauga, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, and Trumbull Counties who are homeless (doubling up or "couch surfing" counts as homeless) or facing homelessness. Generally serves those with very low to extremely low income. Due to program funding, there may be times when this program can only help with establishing the client in a new unit (re-housing the client); funds for ongoing rent may not always be available.

Services include hot meals, emergency groceries, shelters for the homeless, emergency housing assistance, services for children, support for victims of domestic violence, veteran’s assistance, community and senior outreach, and full clinical services including counseling, case management, psychiatry and addiction services. Services provided vary by county.
