Anyone can report elder abuse. The adults in need of protection must live in Lucas County, be age 60 or older and be possible victims of physical/emotional/sexual abuse, neglect, self neglect and/or financial exploitation. (NOTE: Abuse, neglect or exploitation in state licensed nursing homes must be referred to the Ohio Department of Health complaint hotline or the local Long-Term Care Ombudsman's Office. Complaints about State licensed mental health group homes should be referred to the county Mental Health Board, as well as to APS).

Description

Receives and investigates reports of alleged abuse, neglect, self-neglect and/or exploitation of impaired adults in need of protection. Cases accepted for service are investigated fully, and identified problem areas which may affect the client's well-being are assessed. Adult Protective Services is mandated by Ohio law. Health care staff, social service workers and other professionals are mandatory reporters. Reports may be made anonymously.
