Application process

Must first receive firearm competency certification by completing a firearm training course that meets all requirements of the law. A list of certified instructors is listed on the Ohio Attorney General's Office Web site at www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov. Applications are processed by appointment only. Appointments can only be made through website. May see website or phone for information M-F: 8:00am-4:20pm, or leave a message that will be returned within 48-72 hours. If application is approved, client will receive license by mail in approximately 45 days. Clients will be notified by mail of any problems or issues with the application.

Fee

Fixed fee; Payment: will only accept money order, cashier's check, or certified check made out to the Cuyahoga County Treasurer.

Eligibility

Adults 21 and older who reside in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, or Summit County. Must not be charged, under indictment for, or convicted of a felony as well as other specified offenses, inquire for complete details. Must not be drug/alcohol dependent. Must not be subject to any temporary protection or civil protection orders.
