Home Maintenance And Minor Repair Grants/Loans | United States Department Of Agriculture
Offers low-interest loans of up to $40,000 to eligible rural homeowners to repair, improve, or modernize their homes. Also offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible elderly rural homeowners to remove household health and safety hazards. This program is also known as the Section 504 Home Repair Program.

Application process
Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the office to complete an informal prequalification process prior to applying.
Fee
Loans must be repaid with a fixed interest rate of 1% over a 20 year period. Grants do not need to be repaid unless the property is sold less than 3 years after receiving the funding.
Eligibility
Both loan and grant applicants must:
- own and occupy a home in an eligible rural area
- be unable to obtain affordable credit elsewhere
- have a household income that does not exceed the "Very Low Income" limit for their county/metro area
Grant applicants must also be age 62 or older.
