CHILD SUPPORT - PATERNITY ESTABLISHMENT | CUYAHOGA COUNTY JOB AND FAMILY SERVICES

Offers genetic/DNA testing to determine paternity. The father can start the process if he likes and the mother and child can be tested on a different day. All family members do not have to be seen at the same time. Genetic samples are stored for up to two years. In cases where the father is deceased, will direct the family to the proper testing agency (which may be different depending on the situation). Also makes available speakers on the subject of paternity establishment to schools and community groups.

Application process

Phone M-F 9:00am-3:30pm or email for an appointment. Once appointment is made, agency will mail any documents (if needed) to the client.

Fee

No charge for routine paternity cases (unmarried mother, unmarried father and a child). Also no charge for cases where there is a possibility that more than one man could be the father, the parents were unmarried at the time of conception, and legal parenthood was not established. For cases coming through the courts or in cases where paternity/fatherhood has already been established and the courts order paternity testing, there may be charge.

Eligibility

Parents whose child was conceived in Ohio. In addition, at least one parent must live in Cuyahoga County, or Cuyahoga County must have jurisdiction over the case. The child in question must be age 0 through 23yrs.

Operates several Neighborhood Family Service Centers which provide cash benefits (such as Ohio Works First welfare benefits), food assistance (food stamps), medical coverage, employment/training assistance, child care vouchers, and supportive services to Cuyahoga County residents who meet eligibility requirements. Clients are assigned to a Service Center according to their zip code. Spanish-speaking staff are available.
