Eligibility
Serves Summit County residents age 18 and over who meet income eligibility guidelines. Applicants are subject to a criminal background check. Any past balance owed must be paid in full before AMHA can offer housing. The Very Low Income (HCVP - Section 8) Eligibility Guidelines (updated April 1, 2025):
  • Family of 1 = $35,150.
  • Family of 2 = $40,150.
  • Family of 3 = $45,150.
  • Family of 4 = $50,150.
  • Family of 5 = $54,200.
  • Family of 6 = $58,200.
  • Family of 7 = $62,200.
  • Family of 8 = $66,200.

Application process
  • Individuals or families can apply for housing online by visiting the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) website at www.akronhousing.org. Follow instructions for submitting a Preliminary Application.
  • Once a Preliminary Application has been submitted online, the applicant will be provided with a confirmation number as proof of the date and time of application submission.
  • When applicants are near the top of the wait list for any of the programs they selected, applicants will be notified by mail to attend an orientation and complete a full application.
  • Persons with disabilities needing assistance should contact the AMHA Reasonable Accommodations Coordinator at 330-762-9631.
  • Call the Status Line to check an application's status on the waiting list for AMHA.
Fees
Voucher holders may pay more than 30% of adjusted gross yearly income if they choose.
