Mobility Assistance Service Dogs | Canine Companions For Independence - North Central Regional Center

Provides assistance dogs to people with developmental or physical disabilities who can demonstrate that a Canine Companion will enhance their independence or quality of life. Trains dogs regarding 40 commands.

Application process

Call the office to request an application packet or apply online. An applicant coordinator will review the application and conduct an interview to determine if, and what type of, an assistance dog best suits the applicant's needs. After approximately 3-months selected applicants will be invited to attend a 2-week Team Training course.

Fee

Dogs are provided at virtually no cost to the graduates. All the expenses of breeding, raising, and training a Canine Companion are funded through private donations.

Eligibility

- This regional office serves adults with physical disabilities in 14 states including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Western Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. - Must be independently mobile.
