Eligibility

Open to middle, junior high, and high school students from participating school systems. Targets students from CMSD.

Hours

Mornings during the Festival in the Spring. 2026: April 10, 2026, at Playhouse Square for grades K-5 and April 13-17, 2026, at Cedar Lee Theatre for grades 6-12.

Application process

Phone for information M-F: 9:00am-5:00pm. All educators must reserve tickets for all screenings they plan to attend through the reservation link found on the website. The deadline to make ticket reservations is March 21, 2026.

Fees

Tickets are free for students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Akron Public Schools. Other school districts have a fixed fee per student, teachers and chaperones are free.

Description

Provides a special film screening (FilmSlam) for young people from school districts throughout the area. Offers the opportunity to view and discuss selected films by filmmakers from around the world and shows educational films that correspond with curriculum strands. Supplies study guides for teachers and students while encompassing school districts with higher rates of poverty.
