Eligibility

No geographical restrictions. Females ages 10 to 18. Summer programming requires an audition. Regular participants in Sisterhood school year and prior participants in Summer of Sisterhood are given priority. There is space for 35 participants.

Hours

After school program: Tu-Th: 3:00pm- 6:30pm F: 3:00pm-6:00pm. May included some evenings and weekends during the school year. Summer program: 8-week series, M-F: 1:00pm-6:00pm.

Phone or walk in for information and/or to apply M:F: 8:30am-3:00pm. May also download applications from website. Applications are available throughout the school year; however, summer program applications have a deadline at the end of April each year.

Description

Provides an after school learning lab with computers, reading materials, and tutors. Overall focus is on literacy. Includes: service learning, college and career exploration, health and wellness, social skills and self-esteem, recreation trips, among other services. Also offers a competitive summer arts program where girls work with professional artist/teachers in several areas of the arts including: music and poetry composition, creative writing, dance, acting, or graphic design. Girls write music and lyrics, choreograph, perform, and record a CD of their work. Live performance at end of summer.

Services are available to all social, racial, ethnic, and income groups but targets those who are most vulnerable and at-risk. Offers recreational and social programs that support independent living and encourage economic self-sufficiency among other related activities.
