Provides court-appointed Guardians Ad Litem (GALs) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) who advocate for the best interests of children whose parents have become involved with the Juvenile Court due to issues of abuse, neglect, or dependency. The GAL investigates the situation, conducts interviews with the family, then prepares a report for the Juvenile Court. Trains, supports and supervises community volunteers to act in the role of the Guardian ad litem.

Eligibility
Minor children under 18 whose parents are being prosecuted for child abuse, substance abuse issues, or neglect in the Geauga County Juvenile Court. Does not advocate in cases with youth whose parents are divorced or divorcing and are affected by custody and visitation issues.

Hears cases involving the delinquency of persons under eighteen years of age and cases dealing with unruly, abused, neglected, and dependent children. The Juvenile Division also hears all traffic offenses committed by persons under eighteen years of age, and has jurisdiction in adult cases involving paternity, child abuse, nonsupport, and failure to send children to school.
