- Serves Lorain County residents age 18 or older with household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. - Must be employed, participating in a verifiable job search or enrolled in school. - Must complete a financial literacy class. - Must agree to complete the savings requirement, purchase the vehicle from a reputable dealership, and commit to owning the vehicle for no less than six (6) months. - Participants may use this service one time. NOTE: No one in the household can own a vehicle.
Must complete application and provide supporting documentation,such as: - Valid driver’s license for participant. - Social Security card or birth certificate for all household members. - Proof of income for the last 30 days for participant. - Participant must be insurable. Vehicle insurance will be required.

Participants can realistically expect to several months from inquiry to completion of all program requirements.

Description

Provides matching financial assistance to help low-income individuals saving money to purchase a used automobile for transportation to work or school. For every dollar individuals save the program matches it with three (3) dollars up to a total of $6,000. Financial Literacy Class offers educational tips and training in financial and consumer skills needed to purchase a car and other major purchases.
