Summer Crisis Program (EHEAP) | Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission

Program provided by Ohio Development Services Agency is designed to help qualified households pay for summer cooling. This program applies to electric utilities only and is available from July 1 through Sep. 30 and provides one-time payment assistance. This emergency assistance may be used to keep electricity connected and/or allow for the receipt of a window air-conditioning unit and/or fan. Air conditioners or fans may be available to qualifying households if they have not received an a/c unit or fn in the past 3 years. Maximum benefit amount is $350 for PUCO regulated electric companies and $400 for non-PUCO electric suppliers (Co-Op) applied as payment the household's electric bill. The cost of the a/c and/or fan must be factored in and cannot exceed the maximum total benefit after paying the electric bill for these households.

Application process

To apply for the Summer Crisis Program, consumers need to contact their local community action agency. The community action agency determines the benefits that can be provided. The program is available from July 1 until September 30, 2025.

Eligibility

Households must have gross annual income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and must have one member of household age 60 or older or a physician has certified a medical necessity.
