Basic Needs Assistance - Veterans / Surviving Dependents / Miltary Families | Veterans Service Commission - Geauga County
Provides assistance with food, shelter (rent or mortgage), utility bills (gas and electric), principle car payments, and other needed services for veterans, active duty military, and dependent survivors. In some cases, may assist with indigent burial. Assistance is in the form of vouchers. Amount of assistance is based on demonstrated need. Also available to make community presentations about these services.

Call M-F: 8:00am-4:30pm to make an appointment. Client will be provided forms and will be given an appointment to return with documentation.

Eligibility
Must be an honorably discharged veteran (but active duty service members may qualify). Dependents of veterans may also apply. Must be a legal resident of Geauga County for 90 days prior to making application for financial assistance. Considers many factors when determining financial need including income from work, benefits from county, state and the federal government, and the claimant's living expenses and assets. Funeral assistance is only provided for indigent veterans. Client can receive assistance as often as determined by the agency on a case by case basis.
