Provides guide dogs and trains individuals in the use of guide dogs. The guide dogs have been trained to help individuals who have visual impairments or blindness increase their mobility and independence and/or maximize their ability to communicate effectively. Offers a free 28-day residential training program to pair recipients with their guide dog. Provides follow-up assistance in the form of phone calls, emails, and in-home visit (as needed) to graduates during the life of the trainee.

Fee

Guide dog, equipment, and room and board during residential training program have no fee. Travel to and from the agency's facility is the only cost for applicants.

Eligibility

Serves individuals age 18 and over who meet the following criteria: - Are legally blind. - Are physically, emotionally, and financially capable of caring for a dog. - Are able to walk for one (1) mile a day. - Have completed a course in orientation and mobility from a center for the blind and vision impaired who works specifically with life skills and adjustment to vision loss.
