Provides public insurance to cover medical services that may include doctor visits, some prescription drugs, hospital care, home care, long-term care, medical equipment, transportation, mental health, vision, dental, substance abuse services and other services. Medicaid is the payer of last resort - Medicare will be billed first if client is eligible.

Application process

Clients may begin the application process, renew, and/or update their case information by calling the Eligibility Contact Center: M-F: 8:00am-4:30pm. May also apply, renew, and/or update case information through website anytime (client must have an email address to do this). No interview is needed. Agency can look up most supporting documents through an electronic records search - the client will be sent a checklist for any missing supporting documents. Once an eligibility determination is made, a notice of action (NOA) is mailed to the applicant. Applications are available and may be dropped off M-F: 8:00am-4:30pm MCP-eligible clients must select and enroll in an MCP, or will be auto enrolled randomly (plan can be changed with reason, or during open enrollment). Those with general questions about Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care Plans, or who simply need to change their address/contact information can call the Medicaid Customer Service Hotline M-F: 7:00am-8:00pm; Sa: 8:00am-5:00pm. Starting March 28th, 2025: Clients using the online benefits portal will need to either create or sign into an OHID account. After they have created their OHID and logged into it, they will be asked to set up Multi-Factor Verification (a security feature to protect against identification theft). Those who need help navigating the set up process can phone the Contact Center M-F: 8:00am-4:00pm.

Enrollment is free, there may be small co-payments for some services.

Eligibility

Adults age 65 or older or who are considered legally blind or disabled, or persons of any age who receive SSI or SSD. Must live in Geauga County and be a U.S. citizen. Financial eligibility takes into account both income and resources and is set at 75% Federal Poverty Level (FPL). (Anyone who already receives any dollar amount of SSI will automatically qualify for Medicaid without filing a separate application or meeting an asset test).
