Eligibility

Open to Kentucky residents who:
  • are U.S. citizens or qualified legal foreign residents
  • have a with a gross monthly income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty level and a net monthly income at or below 100 percent of the federal poverty level.

With some exceptions, individuals age 18-59 who are able to work must look for employment, accept a suitable job if offered, and not voluntarily quit a job or reduce work hours in order to maintain SNAP eligibility.

Application process

Applications may be submitted online, by phone, in person, or by mailing, faxing, or hand-delivering a completed application to the DCBS office in your county of residence. Applicants will be contacted to complete an interview after their application is received.

Description

Accepts applications and distributes benefits for the State of Kentucky administered Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program, formerly known as food stamps. Program provides monthly nutrition benefits to households who meet income and working qualifications. SNAP benefits are loaded onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card.

Note: Individuals must meet general working requirements and ABAWD working requirements, if applicable, unless excused.
