Identity may have been stolen if an individual receives a letter from the IRS, or learns from a tax professional, one of the following: - The individual filed more than one tax return or someone has already filed using the individual's information. - The individual has a balance due, refund offset, or has had collection actions taken against the individual for a year the individual did not file. - The individual received wages from an employer he/she has not worked for.
