TAX ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES | AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, which provides free tax preparation at the Mary E. Babcock Library in Johnstown, the Licking County Aging Program/Heritage Hall in Newark and the Buckeye Lake Library, is seeking volunteer tax preparers for the upcoming tax season. Volunteers file federal, Ohio and school district tax returns in a much-needed service that’s free, individualized and has no strings attached, saving each client up to several hundred dollars in tax preparation fees and providing him or her with the reassuring knowledge that his or her taxes are done correctly. Tax-Aide volunteers come from all walks of life. Current volunteer preparers include a beautician, teachers and sales people. Basic computer skills and an interest in helping people are all that is required. Training is provided, and each new volunteer is assigned a mentor who is available throughout the tax season to answer questions and help solve problems. Volunteers are asked to work at least one day a week during the 12-week tax season.
