SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SYEP) | YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES UNLIMITED
Assigns area youth to summer jobs with employers within 1-3 miles of their home. Jobs typically have included gardening, maintenance, clerical, arts/cultural, IT, recreation aides, and camp counselors.

Application is online only. Check website for application and FAQ page. The annual application process usually begins on February 1st and closes on May 1st at 5:00pm. May call for questions M-F: 8:00am-4:30pm, or by leaving a message. Messages left will be returned within 24 hours. Applying for a job is the first step but does not guarantee one will receive a job. Those chosen for the program will be notified by e-mail if they are eligible to take the next step. Successfully attending orientations is part of the process. Work sessions will begin in June and end in July. Those who submit incomplete registrations will not be considered.
Fee
Free to apply. Successful applicants are hired in paid positions. In 2024, youth are paid $13.50 per hour for up to 25 hours a week for 6 weeks in June and July.
Eligibility
Serves Cuyahoga County. Must be at least age 14 (by June of the year applying) through 19 and still in high school. Some jobs are available only to residents of the city of Cleveland. Employment throughout Cuyahoga County is subject to limits of available funding. Some jobs may be for those whose families meet income eligibility.
