Description
Provides therapy-based equine programs for people with varying degrees of disabilities. Therapy involves horse-related activities uniquely designed for those with cognitive, physical, emotional and social disabilities (including specialized programs for students with autism and at risk youth). Students learn horseback riding skills and basic horse care while receiving many benefits such as: improved balance, mobility, muscle tone, coordination and posture, enhanced independence, increased concentration, frustration tolerance, behavioral control, and self-esteem. Hippotherapy is conducted with a physician's prescription under the direction of a Physical or Occupational Therapist, a certified therapeutic riding instructor and an appropriate number of volunteers performing the functions of leader and side-walkers. Other activities include Carriage Driving for students who cannot sit astride a horse, Drill Team for advanced students to perform choreographed patterns on horseback, and EquiClub to encourage socialization and creativity through equine-related activities.
