Application process

Check the PSLF FAQ page on the website or phone the U.S. Department of Education's MOHELA office for information. Download the PSLF form on the website. Mail or fax the completed form, with the employer's certification, to U.S. Department of Education, MOHELA, 633 Spirit Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63005-1243.

Eligibility

The applicant must have made 120 qualifying separate monthly payments. This takes at least 10 years before you can qualify for PSLF. Important: The applicant must be working for a qualifying employer at the time the form for forgiveness is submitted and at the time the remaining balance on the loan is forgiven. It is a program for people who work in public service in federal, state, tribal, or local government, or for a non-profit organization.These repayment plans do not qualify for PSLF: Standard Repayment Plan for Direct Consolidation Loans; Graduated Repayment Plan; Extended Repayment Plan; Alternative Repayment Plan.
