Application process

The first step in nominating a property is to complete a National Register Preliminary Questionnaire which can be found on the website - go to "Preserving Ohio" and under "National Register of Historic Places" select "Questionnaire and Nomination Process." Can download and mail the questionnaire or can submit the questionnaire and supporting documents electronically. Staff will review the questionnaire to determine if the property appears to meet National Register requirements. If it does, the individual or organization will be provided with a National Register nomination form and instructions for completing it. NOTE: the questionnaire is a preliminary step designed to help determine potential eligibility and not a National Register nomination form. May phone for more information M-F: 9:00am-5:00pm.

Eligibility

Building has to be at least 50 years old and meet one of the following criteria to be considered: be part of a historically significant period of history; be associated with the life of a historically significant individual; be characteristic of a distinctive period or method of construction; and/or yield or be likely to yield important information in history.
