Eligibility
Serves Summit County residents age 18 and over who meet income eligibility guidelines. Applicants are subject to a criminal background check. Any past balance owed must be paid in full before AMHA can offer housing.
The Low Income (Public Housing) Eligibility Guidelines (updated April 1st, 2025):
- Family of 1: $56,200.
- Family of 2: $64,200.
- Family of 3: $72,250.
- Family of 4: $80,250.
- Family of 5: $86,700.
- Family of 6: $93,100.
- Family of 7: $99,550.
- Family of 8: $105,950.

Application process
- Individuals and families can apply for housing online by visiting the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) website at www.akronhousing.org and following the instructions for submitting a Preliminary Application.
- Once a Preliminary Application has been submitted online, the applicant will be provided with a confirmation number as proof of the date and time of their application.
- When applicants are near the top of the wait list for any program that they have applied for, they will be notified by mail to attend an orientation and complete a full application.
- Persons with disabilities needing assistance should contact the AMHA Reasonable Accommodations Coordinator at 330-762-9631.
Fees
Rent is based on 30% of adjusted gross yearly income.
