Provides monthly cash payments for people age 62 and older. Workers may retire at age 62 and receive a reduced benefit. Full retirement age beginning with people born in 1938 or later is age 65. For individuals born after 1939 that age gradually increases until it reaches 67 for people born after 1959. Benefit amounts depend upon wages earned and the number of quarters of coverage credited to the individual's Social Security record.
