Comprehensive Assistance For Family Caregivers / General Caregiver Support Services | United States Department Of Veterans Affairs

Offers two separate programs: the Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS) and the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) which provide support and benefits for veterans and their family caregivers. PGCSS program provides peer support mentoring, skills training, coaching, telephone support, online programs, and referrals to available resources to caregivers of Veterans. PCAFC offers enhanced clinical support and services for caregivers of eligible Veterans who have a serious injury (or illness) and require in-person personal care services among other requirements.

Eligibility

Both programs serves designated family caregivers (and in some cases, non relative caregivers) of eligible Veterans who have incurred or aggravated a serious injury in the line of duty. PCAFC is specifically for those with eligible service on or before May 7, 1975 or on or after September 11, 2001. Veteran must be in need of personal care services to perform one or more activities of daily living and/or need supervision or protection based on symptoms or residuals of neurological impairment or injury. Veteran must be enrolled for benefits with the VA. General requirements for VA health benefits: veterans 18 and older who are honorably discharged or general discharge under other than dishonorable conditions.
