Provides therapy-based equine programs for people with varying degrees of disabilities. Therapy involves horse-related activities uniquely designed for those with cognitive, physical, emotional and social disabilities (including specialized programs for autistic students). Students learn horseback riding skills and basic horse care while receiving many benefits such as: improved balance, mobility, muscle tone, coordination and posture, enhanced independence, increased concentration, frustration tolerance, behavioral control, and self-esteem. Hippotherapy is conducted with a physician's prescription under the direction of a Physical or Occupational Therapist, a certified therapeutic riding instructor and an appropriate number of volunteers performing the functions of leader and side-walkers.
