Must be an honorably discharged veteran but active duty service members may qualify. Dependents of veterans may also apply. Must be a legal resident of Darke County for 90 days prior to making application for financial assistance. Considers many factors when determining financial need, including income from work, benefits from county, state and the federal government, and the claimant's living expenses and assets. Funeral assistance is only provided for indigent veterans. Client can receive assistance as often as determined by the agency on a case-by-case basis.
Documentation requirements are extensive and will vary with service sought. They will include at least: DD214, proof of residency in Darke County for at least 90 days, a doctor's statement of client's status as unemployable or capable of limited employment, and pay stubs for the previous 2 months. For burial assistance, must be able to prove need. All requirements will be explained at initial visit and in the information packet provided.

Provides assistance with food, shelter (rent or mortgage), utility bills (gas and electric), principal car payments, and other needed services for veterans, active duty military, and dependent survivors. Assistance is in the form of vouchers. Amount of assistance is based on demonstrated need. Also available to make community presentations about these services.
