Provides safety information and answers questions about food, nutrition, dietary supplements, food labeling, cosmetics, pet food, food additives, food biotechnology, blood products, vaccines, tobacco products and medical devices. Handles complaints concerning food (except food items inspected by the USDA including meat, poultry and egg products), food labeling, cosmetics, dietary supplements and medical devices that are under FDA regulation.

1. Set and maintain minimum levels of sanitation in places preparing and/or serving food to the public. 2. Investigate any food related complaints/illness. 3. Provides food safety program services for Ohioans with information regarding assistance in all aspects of food safety to local health department staff, the food service industry and the general public and food product recall as defined by United States Food and Drug Administration Technical experts are also available to provide current information on food safety as it applies to licensable food service operations (e.g., restaurants, vending machine locations, mobile and temporary food service operations)

The Health Department is responsible for licensing and inspection of food service operations and retail food establishments. The State of Ohio requires a minimum of one to four inspections per year depending on type of license. Ohio law requires a food service license for anyone who prepares or serves meals or portions of a meal for a charge or required donation.

Licenses blood banks and plasmapheresis centers. 4. Consumer education, information on nutrition, food additives, food poisoning, effects of drugs, cosmetics, medical devices (pregnancy test kits, weight control gadgets, etc.) Spanish language and large print publications available.
