The Environmental Health Division is responsible for the following programs: body art, boy/girl scout camp inspections, food protectipn program, harmful algal blooms, household sewage treatment systems, manufactured home parks, private water systems, public health nuisance complaints, real estate/subdivisions, recreation park camps, school environmental health, smoke-free workplace, swimming pools and spas and vector-borne and zoonotic disease.

1. Set and maintain minimum levels of sanitation in places preparing and/or serving food to the public. 2. Investigate any food related complaints/illness. 3. Educate public about safe food handling practices. 4. Provide inspection and consultation services for food service operators and their operations. 5. In order to protect and promote public health, the enviornmental health division works closely with local, state, and national, and non-governmental agencies.

Educates the public, enforces public health laws, and investigates environmental public health hazards to protect the community. Inspections are performed for a variety of food operations (restaurants, carry-outs, grocery stores, nursing homes, vending machines, food trucks, temporary events), residential and small flow sewage treatment systems, private water systems (wells, ponds), public recreational facilities (swimming pools and spas, RV parks, camps), body art facilities (tattoo, piercing and permanent cosmetics), schools, and investigation of public health nuisance complaints/issues.

Regulates food (except meat and poultry), prescriptions, including generics, over-the-counter drug products, medical devices, blood products, vaccines, cosmetics, veterinary drugs, animal feed, and electronic products that emit radiation such as microwave ovens and cell phones. Provides a food safety training and certification (5 year certificate). Offers education to restaurants, schools, nursing homes, etc. that need approved training in food handling.

In order to protect and promote public health, the environmental health division works closely with local, state, national, and non-governmental agencies.

Regulates prescription drugs, over-the-counter drug products, medical devices, blood products, vaccines, veterinary drugs. Provides consumer information.

ServSafe, a 3-day Certification in Food Protection course is also available to food service managers. The Serv-Safe program is offered three times a year. Class fee is $193 per person which includes the textbook and handouts. Person-In-Charge is a mandatory one-day food safety class for food service workers with little or no food service experience. The classes are held three times a year and also offered on an as needed basis in the health department conference room. Person In Charge classes are free.

Areas include food, medical devices, drug safety, cosmetics, radiation emitting devices, labeling and packaging violations and product recalls, (does not include red meat or poultry). 2.Inspection of manufacturing plants, copies of reports available to the public (must submit freedom of information request). 3. Licenses blood banks and plasmapheresis centers. 4. Consumer education, information on nutrition, food additives, food poisoning, effects of drugs, cosmetics, medical devices (pregnancy test kits, weight control gadgets, etc.) Spanish language and large print publications available.
