The mission of the EEOC, as set forth in its strategic plan, is to promote equal opportunity in employment through administrative and judicial enforcement of the federal civil rights laws and through education and technical assistance.
Takes complaints and investigates suspected cases of discrimination in employment due to race, color, age, sex (including sexual harassment), religion, national origin, genetic information, pregnancy, disability, retaliation, sexual orientation and gender identity, or equal pay. Does not offer legal advice but will help client understand legal issues surrounding the complaint. Offers clients mediation as an alternative to an investigation.
Provides services which seek to have existing civil rights and anti-discrimination laws enforced, and to secure justice and fair treatment for all people. Involved in inter-group relations and combating extremism. Accepts and seeks to resolve discrimination complaints.
