Provides assistance with housing issues, landlord/tenant concerns, and fair housing discrimination complaints. Offers presentations to social, civic and community organizations, realtors, lenders, public officials, and neighborhood residents to promote safe, affordable housing for all Lorain County residents.

Oversees the administration and enforcement of fair housing laws which prohibits the discrimination of individuals based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability when buying or renting a home. Accepts and investigates complaints of housing discrimination.

Provides enforcement of the Columbus Civil Rights Code. Investigates, mediates and conducts hearings in response to complaints alleging discrimination against individuals in employment, fair housing and/or public accommodation on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex or sexual orientation.

Fair Housing Services are offered to residents of the City of Lima, Allen County, and Mercer County.

Counsels, mediates, and advocates on behalf of Muslims and other Arabs who have experienced discrimination, defamation, or hate crimes. Works to protect and defend the constitutional rights of Muslims in America.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recognizes and protects the civil rights of people with disabilities. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. SOCIL provides assistance in addressing discrimination and barriers to access in the community, including housing, employment, transportation, and recreation.

Investigates complaints of housing discrimination. Provides counseling and supportive services to complainants. Addresses discrimination through mediation,referral, voluntary compliance and/or legal action.

Reviews complaints regarding housing discrimination, and directs them to appropriate offices for action. This may involve advice on actions to take, referral to an attorney, funding an investigation, triggering an audit, etc.

Does not provide housing search assistance or have housing available to rent.

Works to enable all citizens, and prospective citizens of the City of Lorain, to acquire and maintain equal housing accommodations. Investigates housing discrimination complaints throughout the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and provides advocacy services for persons who believe they have been encountered discrimination in housing (both in the public and private sector, whether rental units or purchased housing). If necessary the agency can do discrimination testing to confirm discrimination allegations. Can also make referrals to outside agencies for legal and other related services. Also conducts educational workshops for landlords, rental agents, real estate agents, and others as to what constitutes discrimination in housing. And how they can best comply with the law.
