Advocates are available every morning in the Miami County Municipal Court House to assist victims on the third floor, or they can be reached by calling during office hours.
Victims’ rights advocates can help answer questions regarding custody, criminal charges, protection orders, dissolution and divorce and property issues. Advocates can help victims understand the judicial process and attend legal and court appointments with the victim as requested. While the victims’ rights advocates are not attorneys, they can provide referrals to affordable or even free legal services.

Crime Victim Accompaniment Services
Provides culturally specific and trauma-informed services to individuals experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, with a focus on the immigrant and refugee communities. Both advocacy and legal services are available. The advocate may be able to help with crisis and long-term safety planning, counseling referrals, financial planning, support and referrals to shelter, case management, filing for a Civil Protection Order (CPO), and other services. Attorneys are available when applicable to meet with clients to discuss any legal concerns. If qualified, attorneys can help with a divorce, CPO representation, Marsy's Law, immigration, custody, and so forth. Provides a holistic approach model of assigning one advocate and one attorney to help the client through all their needs, which is beneficial for all survivors, preventing the survivor from having to relive their trauma over and over again by telling multiple people the same story. Offers support groups for different ethnic communities and education/outreach to community members, service providers, and others specializing in cultural humility education. Service is not for those in immediate emergencies, please call 911 if in immediate danger.

Evaluates cases for possible assistance with civil protection order and where one of the following is true: - The applicant or minor child has experienced an incident of abuse within the last 60 days; - The abuser has threatened to kill or physically harm applicant or commit suicide within the last 60 days coupled with severe physical violence in the past year; - The abuser is subject to charges or protection order for offense of violence within the past 60 days or a CPO has been issued against abuser; - The abuser is incarcerated for offense of violence and has made new threats of abuse to applicant and incarceration will end in less than 12 months; - Juvenile court custody matter where unmarried biological mother is seeking custody or incident of abuse towards minor child was alleged but not substantiated, or applicant is concerned about complying with court-ordered custody or visitation due to COVID-19.
