US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the federal agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States and is a part of the US Department of Homeland Security.

LAWO helps to ensure immigrant workers receive fair payment for their labor and have access to decent and sanitary working and living conditions. LAWO participates in extensive outreach activities to increase access to Ohio’s agricultural workers and to identify their needs.

Provides legal services for immigrants and refugees facing housing, financial, family, employment, or education barriers.

Offers professional legal services to low and moderate-income individuals at nominal fees. Available assistance includes but is not limited to adjustment of status, applications for citizenship, immigration case inquiries, Temporary Protected Status, Visa issues, asylum, Green Card applications, document review, practice interviews and work authorization. Citizenship classes are free.

Evaluates cases where: - Applicant has a pending removal proceeding in Cleveland immigration court AND lives in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Geauga, Lake, or Ashtabula County, or was referred by another immigration advocacy organization (such as Catholic Charities, Asian Services in Action or Building Hope in the City), or the applicant is being detained in Geauga County Jail; - Applicant is the victim of domestic violence, trafficking, or other crime (whether crime occurred in applicant’s home country, during applicant’s journey to the United States or in the United States), or applicant is under the age of 18 years old; - Applicant would like to file a family-based petition, is married, recently divorced, the parent of an abusive United States citizen or legal permanent resident (LPR), or seeking custody/guardianship of a child who has an immigration issue; - Applicant is seeking to apply for naturalization; - Applicant would like to request bond. If case is Board of Immigration appeal level or above, Legal Aid must have represented this client in the underlying case.

Offers no- or low-cost assistance with legal issues, such as immigration paperwork, for foreign born individuals.

Assists agricultural workers with governmental procedures related to immigration laws, recovery of unpaid wages, violations of farm worker protection laws, the application for and denial of public benefits, housing evictions, and a variety of consumer issues. Advocates not only work to resolve a clients immediate problem, but also provide education on the legal process and their rights and obligations. Service is limited by availability of staff and funding. There is no guarantee that a lawyer will be available to take a client's case.

Provides culturally specific and trauma-informed services to individuals experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, with a focus on the immigrant and refugee communities. Both advocacy and legal services are available. The advocate may be able to help with crisis and long-term safety planning, counseling referrals, financial planning, support and referrals to shelter, case management, filing for a Civil Protection Order (CPO), and other services. Attorneys are available when applicable to meet with clients to discuss any legal concerns. If qualified, attorneys can help with a divorce, CPO representation, Marsy's Law, immigration, custody, and so forth. Provides a holistic approach model of assigning one advocate and one attorney to help the client through all their needs, which is beneficial for all survivors, preventing the survivor from having to relive their trauma over and over again by telling multiple people the same story. Offers support groups for different ethnic communities and education/outreach to community members, service providers, and others specializing in cultural humility education. Service is not for those in immediate emergencies, please call 911 if in immediate danger.

Provides assistance with filing for citizenship for individuals who have permanent resident status. The Immigration team also gives counsel and advice and represents people in immigration cases, including applying for asylum.

Provides legal assistance for immigrants, non-immigrant visa applicants, asylum seekers and lawful permanent residents who are seeking naturalization. Services may involve the following: - Information and consultation about benefits under immigration law. - Procedures for obtaining student, visitor and employment-based visas. - Family immigration. - Asylee status, lawful permanent residence status, or citizenship.

Provides assistance to clients to file immigrant and citizenship application

Provided by students under the supervision of clinical faculty, students represent clients on family and humanitarian immigration cases, including people seeking family reunification and safety from domestic violence, persecution, torture, and human trafficking. Students also conduct community education on a variety of immigration law topics.

Provides low cost legal services to provide affordable legal care to the immigrant and refugee community. An Accredited Representativre can assist you with your legal paperwork at a fraction of the cost of an attorney.

Provides community meetings with up-to-date information on immigration policy and related topics; legal consultations provided by licensed attorneys; individual and family casework for individuals with medical, mental health, and legal needs; financial assistance with immigration bonds; filing support for those who may have been undocumented when they entered the United States as children.
