Offers assistance in dealing with the justice system to individual victims of domestic violence (including elder abuse), stalking or related crimes. Includes information on the legal process, safety planning, and planning for next steps in the legal process. Advocates are not attorneys but have access to lists of attorneys who are knowledgeable about domestic violence. Advocates are assigned to the criminal municipal courts and are available assist victims with the criminal court process, including temporary protective orders. Accompaniment to court is provided to victims who live in the areas served. Accompaniment services are available for victims with criminal complaints, child custody cases, juvenile court cases if the parents have been together but never married, divorce cases, and domestic relations cases. Those who are clients may have access to donated cell phones to use in emergencies.

Provides assistance to those seeking a civil protection order (CPO) by offering information and guidance about the necessary steps in the process. Will also accompany the client to the court hearing. CPOs are available only for certain crimes and are meant to protect the victim in the long term by establishing that there will be no contact between the victim and aggressor. This office does not assist with Temporary Protection Orders which are short term protection orders enforced by the courts to protect witnesses during court proceedings.
Evaluates cases for possible assistance with a Civil Protection Order (CPO)where one of the following is true: an incident of abuse toward applicant or minor child has occurred in last 60 days; abuser is subject to charges or protection order for offense of violence in last 60 days or a Civil Protection Order (CPO) has been issued against abuser; abuser is incarcerated for offense of violence, has made new threats of abuse to applicant and incarceration will end in less than 12 months; juvenile court custody matter where unmarried biological mother is seeking custody or incident of abuse towards minor child was alleged but not substantiated, or applicant is concerned about complying with court-ordered custody or visitation due to Covid 19.
