Head Start - Mansfield | Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission

Administers a federal program for children birth - 5 years old that are low-income, in foster care and/or children with special needs in half-day classrooms and full-day classrooms. Education, health, nutrition, mental health, special needs, family advocacy and transition services are available to the Early Head Start child and/or Head Start child and family. Transportation may be available for Head Start preschool children that are ages 3 - 5 years old. Children receive meals and snacks, socialization and education in a safe and nurturing environment.

All teachers are licensed by the State of Ohio in early childhood education (with Bachelor and/or Master's degrees) and are highly qualified to provide educational activities and experiences for children from birth to age five which are intended to foster social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth and prepare them for further formal learning. Program includes a focus on: Language Arts; Math; Social Studies and Social Skills; Science; Independence. We guide children through fine arts experiences such as music, help them develop fine, & gross motor skills through physical education classes that enhance your child’s athletic ability, and practice social & self-help skills. You will receive regular reports of your child’s progress and have the opportunity to attend private parent-teacher conferences. Flying Colors staff is committed to educating children and creating stronger families. Parent workshops help you understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses and aid in your child’s transition to kindergarten. Staff members are on call to answer any questions you may have about child development. Flying Colors staff also is highly trained in aiding children with special needs (Link to special ed page). We offer a highly-recognized autism program, developed by a team of child-development experts. A specially-designed classroom is available for children with hearing impairments or speech and language delays. Our school buildings and playgrounds are completely accessible for all children. We offer full-day and half-day classes.
