Protects Ashland County from foodborne illness. In the event that a foodborne outbreak does occur, epidemiologic action is taken by the Health District to control the outbreak and bring it to a conclusion. Also provides the licensing and inspection of all Food Service Operations, Vending Machine Operations, Retail Food Establishments, and Temporary Food and Mobile FSO/RFE within the jurisdiction of the Health Districts.

Accepts and investigates complaints related to the sanitation and/or food-handling practices of food service establishments. Enforces food handling and dispensing laws and regulations through regular inspections and issuance of citations when appropriate. Provides food safety training.

Enforces food handling and dispensing laws and regulations for a variety of retail food establishments, including restaurants, food stands, mobile food carts, congregate meal sites, markets, and bakeries. Accepts and attempts to resolve complaints regarding cleanliness and other conditions that are potentially hazardous to customer health.
Protects the public's health by assisting and monitoring aspects of food protection which include plan review, inspections, licensing, education, complaint, and food borne outbreak investigations. Educates the public, employees, owners, and managers of food facilities through Level 1 and Level 2 courses offered at Richland Public Health covering subjects regarding food safety.
