Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and are encouraged to exercise to increase strength and balance.

Provides a program that prepares students to be safe when they are home alone. The program is designed to enable any adult that enjoys teaching pre-teens to facilitate an introductory level program to prepare students to care for themselves when parents are away for short periods of time. The 90-minute program teaches students how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.

Offers in-home enviromental and medical assessments of homes to protect against health hazards. Program focus is on mold and other asthma triggers. Licensed santarians and nurses are available for consultation. Also families that have children with asthma may qualify for grants to make necessary modifications to negate dangers.

Home Rehabilitation Grants
These classes are more in-depth than the SLIP program and include exercises to help with balance. The classes address the fear of falling, balance, and exercise. Classes meet once a week for eight weeks.
Performs health and safety insepctions of housing units and assesses for rehabilitation. Performs lead based paint and lead pipe assessments as well as polution and soil contamination checks.
Offers a paramedicine program to reduce the number of non-emergency 9-1-1 calls. Provides home consultations and preventative care, home safety assessments, social services referrals, education and assistance with health care system navigation. The program will track participants’ progress to monitor improvements.
Program to help senior citizens who have fallen at home. Working in conjunction with local EMS, the home health division will follow up with senior citizens who have called EMS when they have fallen. KCHD will send a public health nurse to assess the home environment and the individual and then we can provide adaptive equipment if needed, offer recommendations, make referrals to other agencies and connect with the individual’s healthcare provider.
Provides programs to highlight the dangers of electricity in the home, at work, and in agricultural settings.

Offers classes and information on basic infant care, such as bathing, nutrition, and distinguishing cries. Class offered to new or expecting parents. Upon the completion of the class, the client will receive a layette.
