The Safeguard our Seniors or S.O.S program is part of the "Good Neighbor" concept of community policing and designed to ensure the safety and basic needs for those who are elderly, shut-in, disabled , or with special needs. Once part of the program a deputy will stop by at clients residence for a visit and check in on them. Visits are intended to help the senior stay connected, feel less lonely, ward off depression, social isolation and stress. A safety evaluation of the clients home will be completed by a sheriff's deputy.

Program to help senior citizens who have fallen at home. Working in conjunction with local EMS, the home health division will follow up with senior citizens who have called EMS when they have fallen. KCHD will send a public health nurse to assess the home environment and the individual and then we can provide adaptive equipment if needed, offer recommendations, make referrals to other agencies and connect with the individual’s healthcare provider.
