Based on the results of the inspection, volunteers may do the following: - Install handrails. - Install or repair steps. - Install CO2 or smoke detectors. - Install grab bars and other safety equipment. - Enhance lighting. - Check the furnace filter. - Repair broken windows (boarding up window or minor repairs). - Reviews other safety measures the homeowner may be able to complete on their own.

Operates a poison hotline. Does not provide pill identification services. Offers information and education on poison prevention and treatment. Provides literature and speakers on toxic products, poison prevention and treatment.

Genesis Emergency & Trauma Services is offering free home inspections throughout Muskingum County. Trained inspectors will assess homes for potential fall hazards. Program will make residents aware of potential fall hazards – like tripping on throw rugs or falling off step stools. The majority of falls happen to seniors living independently in their own homes – so being able to impact their safety while in their homes will potentially help prevent traumatic injuries. Community members who have their homes inspected will be eligible for one grab bar installed or one nightlight, free of charge. Grab bar installation will be available to any home with at least one person more than 65 years old.

Provides safety programs in the areas of: residential security evalulations, firearm safety, halloween safety, school safety, bicycle safety, neighborhood watch programs, and personal safety.

Program provides a home environment safety assessment for the individual's home, minor home modifications, and coordination with local fire departments to improve the safety of the client's home when requested and appropriate.

Performs health and safety inspections of housing units and assesses for rehabilitation. Performs lead based paint and lead pipe assessments as well as pollution and soil contamination checks.

Provides a multi-session class that reviews techniques and strategies to educate individuals in ways that they can prevent themselves from falling. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and are encouraged to exercise to increase strength and balance.

Home Safety workshops are offered as part of their older adult programs.

Responsible for the control and extinction of fires in urban or wilderness areas; the inspection of buildings and hillside property to ensure potential fire hazards; and the maintenance of equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur. Also provides 24 hour emergency medical services. All firefighters are cross-trained as paramedics.

Offers a paramedicine program to reduce the number of non-emergency 9-1-1 calls. Provides home consultations and preventative care, home safety assessments, social services referrals, education, and assistance with health care system navigation. The program will track participants’ progress to monitor improvements.

Program to help senior citizens who have fallen at home. Working in conjunction with local EMS, the home health division will follow up with senior citizens who have called EMS when they have fallen. KCHD will send a public health nurse to assess the home environment and the individual and then we can provide adaptive equipment if needed, offer recommendations, make referrals to other agencies and connect with the individual’s healthcare provider.

Provides free home safety inspection to identify features in your home that may make your residence susceptible to burglaries, fires, or injuries due to falls. Qualified law enforcement officers, firefighters, aging-service professionals, and occupational therapy student interns will collaborate to conduct the safety inspections, and provide information and free safety equipment (such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, bathmats, nightlights, flashlights, etc.) for the client to consider that may reduce household hazards, decrease safety risks, and help the client be safe in their home.

Fall Prevention workshops are offered as part of our Senior Program. This exercise program focuses on improving balance.

Provides programs to highlight the dangers of electricity in the home, at work, and in agricultural settings.

The Community Safe Senior Project is a collaborative effort between Licking County Aging Partners (LCAP), the Red Cross, the State Fire Marshal’s Fire Safety Educators, and local fire departments. This initiative raises awareness about home safety hazards and provides proactive solutions to prevent emergencies. Services offered include: Smoke Detector Installation, Home Safety Visits and Fire Escape Route Planning.

Offers classes and information on basic infant care, such as bathing, nutrition, and distinguishing cries. Class offered to new or expecting parents. Upon the completion of the class, the client will receive a layette.

Provides safety education to schools and other community groups. Topics include: safety issues, drug and substance abuse through the D.A.R.E. school program home and commercial security surveys, robbery prevention education, bunco/fraud prevention, and neighborhood watch groups. Also makes vacation security checks of citizens' homes.

Offers interactive, small group, evidence-based workshop that meets for eight (8) weekly sessions. Topics include managing fear of falling; physical risk factors for falls; developing habits, techniques, and strategies to prevent falls; and home safety. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and learn evidence-based exercises that improve balance, strength, and flexibility.
