Animal adoptions from the LCAS feature dog registration, vaccinations for DPP and bordetella, microchip implant and a visit to a veterinarian for booster vaccinations, a rabies shot, and spay or neutering for $125. The shelter also has adopted a new policy regarding popular dogs that a number of people want to adopt. While a stray dog is being held during the mandatory legal holding period at the shelter, interested people may place a sealed bid on the canine. The bid must be at least $1 over the regular adoption cost. Bids will remain sealed until 8am the first day the dog is available for adoption with it going to the highest bidder. Any additional funds generated from the bid will be used for medical expenses for shelter dogs.

Pound Puppy Program | Richland Correctional Institution

Program trains seven to eight dogs each cycle, which lasts seven weeks. The dogs are taught five basic commands and two certified instructor volunteers are utilized from the Richland County Dog Kennel Club. The program works in conjunction with Kind Hands 4 Paws (Zanesville), Logan County Shelter (Bellevue), and Mid Ohio Animal Welfare League for adoption of animals.
