Workshops address self-care, problem solving, communication techniques and empathy. The biology of the brain, medications, recovery and rehabilitation are also explored.

MHA offers the national, evidence-based program Mental Health First Aid to teach the skills to respond to the signs of mental illness and substance use. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

Offers professional development opportunities. Most trainings require no prior knowledge of the topic and many of the trainings teach participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

Education course for families of individuals with serious mental illness. Course is taught by trained family member. Discusses clinical treatment of mental illness and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively.

Provides middle school, high school and college-level students with prevention and intervention tools in order to deal with issues of mental illness, drug use, underage drinking, impaired driving, traffic safety, and other destructive decisions.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 12-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program. This means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. NAMI Family-to-Family is taught by NAMI-trained family members who have been there, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises.

The Family-to-Family Education Program is a FREE 8-week course (1X weekly) designed for caregivers, friends, and loved ones of people living with mental illness. Classes are team-taught by intensively trained family members of individuals suffering from mental illnesses. Topics covered include: - local supports and services - how to handle crisis - current therapies and treatments and much more.
