Provides crime prevention and safety education services on topics such as adult passenger safety, bicycle safety, child abuse prevention, child passenger safety, dating violence prevention, general crime prevention, legal information, and personal safety. Offers security evaluations, neighborhood watch and seeks to strengthen police/community relations.

Provides a variety of services directed to educating the public about crime prevention. Community policing program includes activities for children such as sports, hobbies, and outings. Crime Prevention Officer is available to speak to interested groups. Encourages and assists neighborhoods to organize neighborhood associations, which meet to learn how to discourage preventable crime in their areas. Also has a program of stickers installed by the police which alert patrols to cars being driven at unusual hours which may have been stolen. Offers vacation security checks of homes for residents who are out of town. Sponsors a bike rodeo each year where children have bike safety tests, can ride a bike course, are fitted for helmets, etc.

The Community Services Unit is involved in several community-oriented programs designed to increase the interaction, awareness, safety, and involvement of the entire community; investigates citizen complaints, neighborhood disputes, is a liaison between neighborhood, civic, and school groups and the Police division; coordinates a neighborhood block watch program.
