Investigates crimes and provides prevention programs for the community.

These include point-of-sale inspections, interior and exterior inspections of all commercial properties, and inspections of residential exteriors. Also provides all necessary residential building permits. Will monitor security of empty buildings by establishing that they are appropriately boarded up. Accepts building code violation reports.

Handles complaints about possible building code violations and issues dealing with building abandonment, condemnation, and demolition. Maintains land records containing information such as description of property.

Also investigates crimes and reports of missing persons, and investigates incidents of alleged police misconduct. Serves residents of Butler Township only.
