The Sustainability Programs work to protect and maintain the natural environment, human health, and ecological health. It does this by working with partners such as SWACO and MORPC. These programs also minimize solid, infectious and hazardous waste in the community. It is also responsible for regulating and enforcing disposal of waste into approved facilities, including landfills. Investigates illegal dumping and environmental crimes.

Offers members the opportunity bring all their food scraps, including raw and cooked foods, animal products and bones, to bins to be composted. All acceptable food scraps and any Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI)-Certified compostable product can be collected. Rust Belt Riders does not accept pure liquid, pure oil, or non BPI-Certified compostable products.

Maintains streets, signs and signals in the Mansfield City limits. Applies snow/ice control as necessary to maintain more than 600 lane miles of streets and alleys in the city limits.
Clear brush out of alley right-of-ways, trim or remove dead, dying, deceased, or hazard trees on city right-of-ways. Plant trees at request of Shade Tree Commission.
Make necessary asphalt patch repairs, crack seal streets, monitor street opening permits from Codes & Permits, patch Water and Sewer street openings. Maintains signs in city limits. Inventory, repair, replace, and install signs. Paint centerlines and skip lines on streets in city limits, also paint turn arrows, crosswalks, and school zones. Maintain traffic signals, annual signal inspection and relamping, downtown street light maintenance. City does not maintain residential street lights, that is Ohio Edison.
Picks up dead animals in the city limits that are in the street, not on private property. Clean up debris in the street.
Maintain State Routes in the city limits. Mow State Route fields and islands, in the city limits, city right-of-ways, road sides, and guard rails. Water and Sewer maintenance is in the same building.
