Offers a drug disposal product to pharmacy customers as part of an effort to combat the nation's opioid abuse epidemic. DisposeRX, is meant to be used by customers who no longer need their prescription painkillers or are concerned that someone else might take their pills. When mixed with warm water and prescription medication in a pill bottle, DisposeRX creates a solid that can then be thrown out safely in the trash, without the risk of contaminating groundwater.
There are four drop-boxes available in Knox County. They are located at the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Fredericktown Police Department, the Danville Police Department and the Mount Vernon Police Department. All four of these medicine disposal boxes are free and anonymous, no questions asked. Pills should be removed from bottles and placed in baggies. This is a great opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft. *Acceptable items for disposal are: Prescription drugs, Over-the-counter medications, Pet medications and Vitamins . *Items NOT accepted include: Liquids, injectables, Ointments, creams or lotions, Liquid medications, cough syrups and inhalers
Accepts household hazardous wastes including: - Oil-based paint and paint products. - Aerosols. - Pesticides (liquids, solids, and aerosols). - Cleaners (acids/bases/oxidizers). - Reactives. - Adhesives, roof tar, and driveway sealers. - Gasoline and kerosene. - Automobile products (fluids, greases). - Mercury. - Propane cylinders (up to 20 pounds). - Helium cylinders (up to 20 pounds). - Freon, oxygen, and carbon dioxide cylinders. - Fluorescent lamps. - Flares. Will NOT accept: - Latex paint. - Explosives other than flares. - Medical waste. - Ammunition. - Construction debris. - Electronics. - Freon containing appliances (dehumidifiers, refrigerators, air conditioners, and so forth).
