Working to stabilize families/individuals impacted by a disaster, the American Red Cross provides financial assistance for food, clothing, shelter, and if needed, emergency medical supplies and mental health services to those victims of disasters (single family fires, explosions, flooding, tornadoes, etc). These on-site services are provided within 2-hrs of any event. During the recovery phase of a disaster, the Red Cross also provides clean-up supplies, household items, and may include replacing work tools, eyeglasses, prescriptions, rent and deposit assistance. Moreover, during the recovery phase of a disaster, the Red Cross often partners with other United Way funded agencies and other social service providers to help provide a continuum of care, enabling the families to resume work, school and other 'normal' activities, by providing immediate "income".
We also install FREE Smoke Alarms as a part of our efforts to reduce deaths and injuries from fires. Our Pillowcase Project, helps youth understand disasters, and prepare their own Pillowcase if they have to flee their home.
