Specific topics include the role and responsibilities of serving on a board, best practices in nonprofit governance, leadership succession planning and the roles of advisory boards. - Board Consulting: Conducts board consultations for board and staff leaders of nonprofit organizations. The board assessment process engages the full board in a discussion around the best practices in governance. BVU then prepares recommendations and facilitates a process with the board to strengthen its own performance. - Leadership Succession Consulting: Provides leadership succession and transition planning consulting for nonprofit staff and boards, including the development of emergency succession plans, long range staff succession plans and board succession plans. - Operational Consulting: Engagement of volunteer consultants, financial management, technology, marketing, legal and human resources.

Raises and distributes funds to benefit United Way agencies located in Columbiana, East Palestine, Hanoverton, Leetonia, Lisbon, New Waterford, Rogers, Salem, Salineville, Summitville, and Washingtonville.

Provides accessible business training, educational resources and individualized direction to entrepreneurs, students, established business owners, and non-profits. Offers co-working space to contemplate, cultivate, or expand a business or business idea. Offers business courses and workshops, many in cooperation with other organizations that assist business owners. For non-profits, serves as a Foundation Center Funding Information Network (FIN) Library. Offers access to Foundation Center databases, reference directories, and resources.

Provides online and in-person information and resources for nonprofit agencies. Services include professional development (certificates and workshops), technical assistance/consultations, online Job Center and online on-demand resources and educational opportunities.

Topics include board leadership and development, financial management and accountability, legal and ethical concerns, grant writing, business and sustainability planning, and more.
